Collared and controlled, Shifters are outcast from humanity, forced to live in Shiftertowns. But waiting within are passions that no Collar can contain.

Like most Shifters, Liam Morrissey has learned that trusting humans leads to no good. But when a beautiful attorney enters Shiftertown alone, Liam's alpha nature leaves him no choice but to offer his protection.

Tasked with defending a Shifter accused of murder, attorney Kim Fraser is completely out of her depth in the mysterious world of Shifters. To prove her client's innocence, Kim will need the help of someone on the inside, even though relying on Liam goes against everything society says about Shifters.

And when an un-Collared Shifter threatens both Kim and Liam, the young attorney will have to learn to trust her unlikely protector and face the passion she feels for a man who can't be tamed.

“Wait a minute. You expect me to stay overnight in a house with four single men? Sean grinned. We're perfect gentlemen, Kim. Everyone knows that. Don't let us worry you. I'm not worried about my reputation, I'm worried about the state of the bathrooms.”

I'm so very much in love with Jennifer Ashley's books right now. I've only read 3 of her books - and all are from this series... but that's enough evidence for me to label her as a great, great writer of paranormal romance. I've even seemed to overcome my issues with 3rd person POV's.

The main thing to remember about this series is that you can read each one in any order you wish and it doesn't even matter one little bit. This is always a bonus when starting off a series that contains more than the average books. Like with me, for example - I read the 7th book in this series for review just the other day and although I'd never ever read a single book from The Shifters Unbound series, never mind a single one of author Jennifer Ashley's books - I found my experience with Mate Bond easy to get into. This was a pleasant surprise and the simple fact that I'm continuing to move onto the rest of the books in the Shifters Unbound series is enough to tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed Mate Bond.

For those who have never heard of any of these books....

The Shifters Unbound series is made up of both novella's and full length novels. Each book takes on new characters, new troubles - but always focuses on the couple and their mating, bond, mate bond ect. Each book I've read so far contain many different angles. Predominately the book focuses on the bond between the characters - but like I said, there's always trouble lurking around the corner.

To catch you up to speed with where it all takes place... The world as we know it are now fully aware of shifters living amongst them. There are more paranormal entity's than just shifters, but you get to explore something new in each book. Naturally most humans are afraid of shifters and their abilities - so because of that the government created what's known as Shiftertowns. Shifters are further required to wear collars that control their emotions. Or rather prevent them from lashing out. But this doesn't stop them much. Shifters can fight and protect whilst still wearing the collars, but it's a painful experience for them. Within each Shiftertown are various types of shifters. From wolves, bears, felines ect. these breeds live together in (somewhat) harmony. The truth is that humans fear shifters far more than they really should because although there are some evil characters, most are really just living their lives.

Pride Mates is about a human female, Kim - who is an attorney who gets called in to work a case involving a shifter who may or may not have killed his human girlfriend. Kim then sets off to Shiftertown and meets the charismatic Liam - a feline (lion, tiger, cheetah) shifter. Liam's line of shifters originate from Ireland, so of course Liam has a little bit of an accent - as if he needs to be any hotter than he already is :)

Kim is independent and strong. So when Liam decides he's going to mate-claim her... she's not as eager to accept... at first of course. Together Liam and Kim set out to prove that the shifter suspected of murdering his girlfriend is in fact innocent. Well... not really. Kim is set on proving him innocent... Liam is set on watching over Kim while she does this.

Even though I really enjoyed this book and have absolutely nothing negative to add to this review, I'll admit that the ending was a little rushed. Perhaps it's because what happens at the end is a pretty big 'thing' but because it happens so fast, you don't get the chance to let it sink in until you are finished with the book. I'd have like to see more of their happy ending.

Like I said earlier, these books are written in 3rd person POV - which is not my favorite kind of writing, but these are so good that I'm entirely happy to overlook it. The books are just so exciting, totally sexy and uttering intoxicating, that I just couldn't find it in me to care.

I'm slowly working my way through this entire series and let me tell you that since I've already read 3 of them... I can honestly say - that the Shifters Unbound is a brilliantly written, highly exciting & pantingly sexy paranormal / shifter romance series!
