Noah Ryan and Jules Doucette spent every moment together, first as best friends and later as young lovers. The two had planned a life together—until one unspeakable decision tore them apart for good.

Twenty-six years later, Jules is still carefully living the life her mother planned out for her. She’s running her mother’s store, living in her mother’s house, following her mother’s rules, and keeping the secrets her mother made her bury.

Then Noah comes home and any sense of an ordered life flies out the window. Noah’s return does more than just stir up old memories—it forces Jules to see her life in a whole new way and uncovers secrets even she didn’t know were buried. Secrets that could easily destroy her world once more.

“It’s really good to see you, Jules,” he said softly.
“You look good.”
I bit my bottom lip and dug a thumbnail into my arm. Dear God, he looked good, too. Even better up close. That voice that went with the eyes—and the body, even buffed out and different, was still the same. But my thoughts wouldn’t stop shoving their way to the surface.
“Why this month?” I blurted out, wishing for duct tape over my mouth. “Why now? You could have picked any other time of the year to come back home. March, April—July, even.”

Don't Let Go by Sharla Lovelace is a stand-alone novel about second chance love... and everything else under the sun...

What I mean when I say this is that there's kind of a lot happening within this book but at the same time nothing at all. It's suppose to be about a second chance at romance - but there's so little in this book regarding that - that I struggled to place the real plot within.

Another thing that drove me utterly insane, was when pretty much everything got repeated at some point. By this I mean that 'something' happens, then you spend the next 20 pages reading about the same 'something' over and over again as Jules relays the tale or mentions it to someone and this happens like it's stuck on repeat! It drove me up the wall!!!

I struggled with connecting in all aspects of the book. I couldn't get into this story, I couldn't click with the characters, I didn't love what happened, I can't say this book is in any way a great read. Maybe a reasonably okay read, but not at all an epic love story. It's not even a sexy book.

I found Jules such an awkward character. She's a mother of two, in her 40's and there's nothing, absolutely nothing sexy going on in this book. I found the writing boring, the plot one dimensional and the characters irritating as all hell. Jule's daughter is a real bitch and Jules is extremely selfish.... blames all her problems on others instead of taking responsibility for her own actions.

My opinion of Noah isn't much better...

In fact the only character I kind of liked was Noah's girlfriend Shayna. But even that didn't last forever. Ends up she's a lying b**ch as well so really I ended up not liking a single character from this book.

Let me be brutally honest here (again)... this book felt like a cheesy Mills and Boons knock-off... and that's giving it a whole lot of credit is doesn't really deserve. This book went on forever and ever when in truth nothing really happened. There was no BOOM no BANG... just a bad plot and bland characters.

I didn't even find the romantic bits that great... This entire book felt... empty. I'm struggling to figure out how it received so many 5 star reviews... But to each their own I guess. Jules irritated the daylights out of me! I'm so frustrated after completing this book that I'm angry at myself for reading it.

  1. I haven't read this one, I still don't know if it's something I would enjoy.
It's a shame you didn't like any characters in the book, it's happened to me before and it's so frustrating! Just makes me want to stop reading the thing haha :P
