Three Wishes by Kristen Ashley
When Lily Jacobs was born, she inherited Fazire – a genie. Her family had three wishes and they’d only ever used one so Fazire was stuck in the human world. This worked since he’d become a member of the family anyway.

Even with a genie, Lily's young life wasn’t perfect. To escape the kids making her miserable at school, Lily buried herself in romance novels. One day, when the teasing was just too much, she used one of her wishes. She told Fazire she wanted to find a man like in her books and she made the most complicated wish Fazire had ever heard. Her wished-for man had to be impossibly handsome, virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless (amongst a dozen other things).

He also had to think she was beautiful and he had to love her more than anything in the world.
Nathaniel McAllister wasn’t born to a life where there were such things as genies granting wishes. His life was filled with drugs, crime and neglect. He was running errands for a gangster before he was in his teens and, even though life and hard work led him to wealth and respectability, he always knew, deep down, he was dirty. When Nate met Lily he knew he was no good for her but as virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless as he was, Nate was no match for the pull of sweet, innocent Lily.

Unfortunately, Lily’s wish included that she and her hero go through trials and tribulations to test their love. And Fazire wasn’t only a good genie, he loved Lily – so he gave her exactly what she wanted.

Don't ask me why, because I wont be able to explain it, but for whatever reason, even though I'm a majorly huge KA fan, Three Wishes just didn't tempt me to read it. I mean, I've pretty much read every single KA book and many (almost all of them) I've reread at some point when I got the KA itch.

Why I didn't read this book sooner, I'll never be able to explain, but better late than never right?

A few things about this book that I did notice while I read it.

One, it's not the usual KA novel. It's written in 3rd person throughout (not one particular style I enjoy reading) and the setting is kind of 'old school' so more like a historical romance of sorts. (Again, not really my usual reading choice). This could be one of the reason's I didn't immediately dive into it. It very well could be. But honestly I can't remember my thinking when I first saw it years ago.

It does move along and eventually end up in modern day, but even then it's very, very different to the normal KA style. There are really few times where they curse, which if you've ever read a KA, you'll know that most of her Alpha's use curse words more often than not. Which - I don't know what this says about me - I kind of like since it's great at expressing passion between the characters. In Three Wishes, I can honestly count on my hand the amount of times explicit language is used. And I noticed it immediately and although I enjoyed this book so much that I finished it in one go, I did miss those usual heated moments KA blesses us with.

I'm not sure why this isn't the same, it could just be that KA was trying something new. I really can't say, but whatever the reason... it doesn't take away from the fact that everything else in this book is pure Kristen Ashley at her best.

Three Wishes borders on both Adult Romance & Adult Fantasy Romance. We get our usual dose of hot alpha and an awesome genie all in one. That I enjoyed. Is it better than KA's all consuming gorgeous alpha and quirky female lead? No. Nothing ever beats that. But the good news and that this book is a refreshingly different tale, but still absolutely a KA book.

I can't say I haven't missed that. KA's latest books haven't really made me ooh and ahh. Somethings missing in her currently writing and I can't put my finger on it, but it's making me really sad that I'm losing out on KA's magic - but even though this book was released ages ago, I needed a reminder as to why I adore her writing so much and why I consider her my favorite author when it comes to continued success in hooking me over and over again no matter how many times I've read and reread her books.

There's little that needs to be mentioned to get you to get this and read it. But I believe the one fact that you should take to heart is that if you love the old KA style and find yourself craving her characters... then Three Wishes is what you should be reading.

A sweet female character, a hot, wealthy alpha, a cute, bubbly child and a loving, protective genie are great ingredients for an awesome blend of variety in a book.

If you've not yet read this book for whatever reason that may be... take it from someone who hesitated for years to pick this up... I loved it! Looovvveedddd it!
