But what Alayna didn’t figure on is Hudson Pierce, the new owner of the nightclub. He’s smart, rich, and gorgeous—the kind of guy Alayna knows to stay away from if she wants to keep her past tendencies in check. Except, Hudson’s fixed his sights on her. He wants her in his bed and makes no secret of it.
Avoiding him isn’t an option after he offers a business proposition she can’t turn down and she’s drawn further into his universe, unable to resist his gravitational pull. When she learns Hudson has a dark history of his own, she realizes too late that she’s fallen for the worst man she could possibly get involved with. Or maybe their less than ideal pasts give them an opportunity to heal each other and finally find the love their lives have been missing.
But... this will only be the case if I actually enjoyed the first book and only if I decide that the series is one I'll continue with. If for whatever reason I can only read up until book #2, I'll cut off my reading there and review at that point. So I'm starting this new review procedure with the Fixed Series by Laurelin Paige.
As you may have guessed, I did enjoy book #1 - Fixed on You. In fact I not only gave it a 5 out of 5 - I furthermore labeled it a favorite 2013 read. So it's fairly safe to say that I enjoyed every single second of Fixed on You. The lucky part (for me at least) was at the time I read Fixed on You, Found in You (which is book #2) was already available, so I could immediately move onto the second book in this series and boy what a 'must-have' moment I had.
One of the main reason's I fell in love with Fixed on You is because of Alanya. It's strange to say that for the first time in ages, I loved the female character far more that I loved the male lead. Don't mistake me... I did love Hudson... I was just really, really Team Alayna on this one.
Why? It's simple. She's exactly like us. Well... sort of... She obsesses. I obsesses. I don't know about you, but if you are reading my review, it's kind of safe to say that you are a little obsessed as well. Of course in a totally different way than Alayna. She's kind of creepy since she actually stalks her obsessions... we book lovers have a similar behavior but these just involve reoping a book with one our favorite book-boyfriends... lol :)
No in all seriousness, I loved the fact that Alayna was real. She had what every girl who has ever truly fallen in love has had. Obsession. She's fixated on Hudson. (who isn't?) ... but she really is and it's a real condition. Not just the pervy kind. The 'My names Alayna and I'm a stalker' kind. She's been slapped with restraining orders in the past and she's aware it's no joke. But she just can't help it. And I get it. I totally got her. And I loved that I did. She was beautiful. Not mousy, bland, 'oh I'm pathetic and no-body wants me'... She was confident in her own way, fun and I adored her personality so much. At one point I even reread the come-back Alayna has for Hudson's mother and I laughed and laughed. It was witty! The best part about this book was the fact that Hudson was so opposite from Alayna that he actually wanted, welcomed and craved her jealousy or creepy behavior. He sort of needed it from her. Just as Alayna was obsessed with Hudson, he was equally as obsessed with her. The first book is amazing! An absolute 5/5 Stars from me. The Second book - Found in You continues with exactly the same amount of fabulous. A great story, fantastic writing... a 'didn't see that coming' twist... it had it all. The fact that once I'd finished Found in You and still wanted more of Alayna and Hudson speaks volumes.... high high volumes....!
By this time I'm usually over it. Unless of course it's that good a tale. Which - you guessed it - it definitely was.
Since book #2 is much of the same as book #1 (but different in the good kind of way) I'm not going to spend much time going into it. Just know that book #2 also received a 5/5 stars from me.
The release of the third and final book Forever With You couldn't have come soon enough. This was one of the few books I was closely watching on Amazon. I bought it the moment it was released and immediately began reading.
Now this is where I come to a slight hold of my praises for this series. It took me a long, long time to get into this book. I don't know why. Maybe it was due to the break I had between book #2 and book #3 that caused this. Perhaps if I had read it like someone who was only now going to begin this series and have all three books available to me, it would have made a huge difference in my feelings towards the third book. But I struggled. I really did.
I found a lot of repetitive behaviors... mainly sex. Lot's of it and no development in the actual plot or progression or change. It became a little stale for me. Until about 50%... then it took off with a bang! This is where I remembered why it was that I initially fell in love with this series in the first place. Why it was that I'm in love with author Laurelin Paige and why it is that the Fixed Series is considered a favorite of mine.
Because from 50% onwards... it's just awesome. For those of who who have read the first two will freak-the-f-out! Those who have yet to read the entire series are in for such a treat I'm actually jealous!
However, for this, the third book in the Fixed Series, Forever with You, I'm going with a 4.5 / 5. And only because the first half was kind of boring and over-played. It was closer to a 3 beforehand, but because of that 50% turning point it shot up. I'd have liked to give it a full 5/5 but unfortunately it's just not as perfectly polished at the first two were. It took me two days to force my way through and that's pretty sad. But hey.... still an amazing series and another great book from author Laurelin Paige!
