I've had this book for some time now... I've been meaning to get to it and I'm so sorry I didn't read it sooner. The cover was one major reason I kept looking at it and going... 'soon baby, soon it's you and me'... I think the two on this cover (even if you can't see faces) are just freaking crazy hot! -> Note that this is one of those books where you can safely judge it by its cover. What you see on the front... you find in spades between the pages of Connected. Phew!
What I loved most about Connected? While you are reading about the attraction between D & R, you don't even realize that's there's more going on here. I'm not usually one for suspense or mystery butdammit... this was just fantastically well played out.
Dahlia meets River 5 years ago when she and a friend of her's go to a club near their college to check out a new band. While getting drinks at the bar, she spots River and River... spots her. The attraction is instant and fiercely potent... and that's putting it mildly. Don't misunderstand... it's not insta-love... it's insta-lust or insta-connection. So if you hate couples who declare their intentions soon in a book - you are safe here... it's pretty well planned out and definitely leaves you panting.
So... River wants to get to know Dahlia within seconds of meeting her... but the problem? She has a cute boy back at his fraternity house waiting for her. In other words... she's got a boyfriend. Another aspect that played out well is her behavior towards the deep connection she shares with River and her ability to remain true and loyal to her boyfriend Ben.
Anyhoo... So they chat, laugh and briefly get to know one another and then she discovers, when he finally leaves, that he's the lead singer of the band she's come to watch. But she doesn't hang out - she makes a run for it, because she doesn't trust herself and the last thing she wants is to hurt Ben.
I really didn't want to like Ben... but the way Author Kim Karr created their relationship, you can't help but like him. Even though you want River and Dahlia to have their moment... I was worried about how Kim Karr was going to go about making this happen without upsetting some readers who have 'cheating partner' issues. I personally thought - go for it girl - but I know it's a soft spot for some and I'm glad KK didn't just make it all simple and use the standard & easier method some authors would do to bring River & Dahlia together. KK worked hard at creating and ultimately ending a relationship that we as readers couldn't help but love. So thumbs up for that KK <3
So... fast forward 3 years later and that's where everything changes. Ben & Dahlia are still together... but...No, I'm gonna stop right there and just say, I found myself in love and angry at Ben at that moment. Then... I was tearing my heart out at the pain I felt when Dahlia's life altered for good. Wow!
Fast Forward 2 more years and that's when, with a chance meeting, River comes back into Dahlia's life.
Now, from that point onwards it's an extremely erotic book & I loved every second of every page and I'll definitely be reading Connected all over again. I loved how I immediately fell in love with River and how easily I began rooting for the two of them to become more. Like I said, this book is so well thought out, there isn't a moment when I thought WTF! Nope - it's Well plotted, Well Planned & Brilliantly written. LOVED IT!
Let's talk about the 'hidden plot' that I didn't see coming at all. I did begin to wonder if this was it for them when I got to about 60%. I felt it went into a pattern, but then suddenly I was knocked right out of my socks and again... W.O.W.
I'm aching for the followup. Physically wonton with need to read it and soon. There's so much that's going to happen I can't even wrap my head around how KK is going to make this work out. But I have faith in her and know in my gut that she's not going to take the easy road here... I actually felt the passion KK has for her characters and this series. It was Awesome and... perfect, really :D
Rating: 5 Stars! (& a 2013 Fav)
